This year the Committee celebrates it's 60th continuous year as a trades council. A significant achievement! Stay tuned.
The new Alberta GPMA's are posted on the Collective Agreements Page and are available for downloading. The Agreements cover listed projects in Ft. McMurray, Edmonton area and the Calgary area. The Agrements are effective January 1, 2012 until December 31, 2015. Employers are authorized to implement the new terms and conditions of the agreements effective January 1, 2012.
Posted January 23, 2012 - the 2011 Bursary program was very successfull with well over 200 applications for the 88 Bursaries available. Cheques were mailed to the successfull applicants by December 12, 2012. The 2011 winners list was e-mailed to GPMC members and through them to participating local unions. We have recieved a number of letters and e-mails of thanks from the winners who appreciate the assistance with the high cost of post secondary edcation. Stay tuned for the 2012 program which will commence in September of 2012. This is a valuable program delivered by the maintenance industry for building trades union members who live in areas where maintenance agreements are in operation.
Posted November 15, 2011 - the period for accepting applications for the 2011 Bursary Program is now closed. We recieved 230 applications from across Canada for the 88 $500.00 Bursaries available. Winning applications will be drawn in a lottery system, December 2, 2011. Cheques will be mailed prior to Christmas. Thank you to Local Unions Representatives who got the word out and distributed the application forms to their members!!
Posted October 24, 2011 - so far we have received 52 applications for the 88 bursaries available. Eligible students have a very good chance for a $500.00 bursary to help with post secondary education costs.
Posted September 15, 2011 - information and application forms were mailed to Local Union Business Managers accross Canada earlier this week. This year, the Robert J. Watson Bursary Program will distribute 88 $500.00 bursaries to children of Local Union Members who live in areas where maintenance agreements are in operation and who are attending post seconday school education institutions. Application forms will be available through the appropriate Local Union office in your area. Applications must be fully completed and returned no later that November 14, 2011. Full details are contained on the application form.
Posted January 13, 2011 - The Robert J. Watson National Bursary Program for the maintenance industry held its 2010 - 2011 draw on December 3, 2010 at the annual meeting of the General Presidents' Maintenance Committee in Toronto. 46 $500.00 bursaries were awarded and mailed to draw winners from across Canada. The Committee thanks Local Union Business Managers for assisting with the distribution of information regarding the Program to members. This year there were over 188 eligible applications. Click here to see the list of winners. The Committee is very pleased to be able to help the sons and daughters of members with the high cost of post secondary education. Stay tuned for the 2011 - 2012 Program which will commence in September of this year.
On December 4, 2009, Members of the General Presidents' Maintenance Committee voted to name this Bursary Program, the Robert J. Watson National Bursary Program in honour of former Committee Chairman Robert Watson. Bob led this committee for 25 years and was instrumental in the development of the unionized contract maintenance industry in Canada.
